José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda, commonly known as José Rizal, is a national hero and a celebrated intellectual in the Philippines. Born on June 19, 1861, in Calamba, Laguna, Philippines, he was a poet, novelist, ophthalmologist, and revolutionary who is best known for his role in the Philippine Revolution and for his writings that inspired a sense of national identity and pride among the Filipino people. Rizal was the seventh of 11 children in a family that was financially comfortable and well-educated. His parents, Francisco Mercado and Teodora Alonso, were both educated and had significant roles in their community. Rizal was homeschooled by his mother until he was 11 years old, and then he attended various schools in Manila and Biñan. Emilio Aguinaldo is a significant figure in the history of the Philippines. He was born on March 22, 1869, in Kawit, Cavite, Philippines, and died on February 6, 1964, in Quezon City, Philippines, at the age of 94. Aguinaldo is best known for his role in the Philippine Revolution against Spanish colonial rule and for being the country's first president. Aguinaldo was born into a family of farmers, and he received his education in Catholic schools. She was born on May 31, 1978, in Davao City and is the daughter of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. Sara Duterte-Carpio grew up in a political family, with her father serving as mayor of Davao City for more than two decades before becoming President of the Philippines in 2016. She earned a degree in law from San Beda College in Manila and worked as a lawyer before entering politics. In 2007, Duterte-Carpio entered politics and ran for mayor of Davao City. She was elected by a wide margin and served as mayor until 2010, when she was succeeded by her father.
