Droupadi Murmu is a prominent Indian politician and the current Governor of Jharkhand, a state in eastern India. She is the first woman tribal leader to hold this position, and her appointment as Governor in May 2018 was a historic moment for women and tribal communities in India. Before her appointment as Governor, she served as a member of the legislative assembly (MLA) in Jharkhand and held various positions in the state government. Droupadi Murmu was born on 20th June 1958 in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, a state in eastern India. She belongs to the Santhal tribal community, which is one of the largest indigenous communities in India. Her parents were farmers, and she grew up in a rural environment, which instilled in her a strong connection to her community and a deep appreciation for the importance of education.
