Sara Duterte-Carpio is a Filipino politician who currently serves as the Mayor of Davao City, the largest city on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines. She was born on May 31, 1978, in Davao City and is the daughter of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. Sara Duterte-Carpio grew up in a political family, with her father serving as mayor of Davao City for more than two decades before becoming President of the Philippines in 2016. She earned a degree in law from San Beda College in Manila and worked as a lawyer before entering politics. In 2007, Duterte-Carpio entered politics and ran for mayor of Davao City. She was elected by a wide margin and served as mayor until 2010, when she was succeeded by her father. She then served as vice mayor of Davao City from 2010 to 2013 before being elected mayor again in 2013. She was reelected as mayor in 2016 and 2019, with large majorities in both elections.
